Top 3 Park Boards 2018 – Men’s

Comments off

So you got yourself a stinkin’ old plank with buckled rails and craters in your base, but you are so used to it you don’t wanna change it out yet? We’ve been there, it can be emotional, we have had the misfortune of snapping a brand new board on its maiden voyage, damaging a board during transport & having a cherished Technine cease production entirely (honestly who ever thought baggy ass pants were gonna stop being ‘the thing?’).

Anyway. Looking for a new board can be a bit of a roller coaster but it will shape part of the way you ride so you had better get it right, there isn’t much point having the best looking board on the hill if it doesn’t suit your application so don’t be that guy or girl.

Here’s some one who got their board choice dialled!

Jay Galda with a saucy back board same-way on his Neversummer.

We see boards go through trends year in year out, and its great to see board makers testing the limits and advancing the technology on your swag plank. There is always an influx of the shiny and the new and if you have been a victim of the shiny new board purchase without knowing its true merits we don’t blame you, as mentioned above we chop through these things like confused lumberjacks, but now its not so shiny or new and you have worked out your style, lets get you steered in the right direction.

We have selected our own top 3 park specific boards based on a combination of riding NSW and VIC resorts, as well as the central and western mountains of the States and Canada.

#1. Never Summer – Funslinger

The name pretty well says it all, we are constantly impressed with the craftsman over at Neversummer, and this one in particular takes the cake. Never summer are obsessed with getting you everywhere you need to go on a plank and two bindings and when you put the two together its pretty spectacular.

The clever camber borrowed from the ripsaw will help you get from Peak to Booter to Rail quickly and confidently, while its clever lightweight components and hand crafted sorcery will keep you flexy and nimble for butters and offer a bit of extra help for a slightly off target landing. No.1 spot has to be the never summer (we’ve also never broken one of these which is pretty amazing).

#2. Salomon – Villain

This one actually dragged our asses off of dead flat rail specific boards with its clever camber profile, so yeah, Mind Blown!. It is an exceptional board that can not only attack a slope anywhere on the mountain but adjust to a Rail in a split second or launch you anyway you like off of a Booter, flat through the feet then curving slightly toward the earth after your bindings, the design is ever so slight, but the difference it makes is astronomical, by far the most controlled park board we have ever ridden, nice and light very nimble board.

pro tip – try not to smack your rails into anything if you can avoid it, soft light boards aren’t the strongest we have buried one of these before their time to date.

we like this one quite a bit, in fact we have spoken about it before, check that review out here

#3. Capita – Scott Stevens

This thing defies true explanation, the level of pop it has is out of this world and after watching the wizard himself Scotty Stevens’ edits you will see why that might be necessary. It doesn’t feel like its camber suggests it might ride. it is stiff in a sense that feels hyper controlled but you can brake a high jump record from the flat with it, and you get this thing into a press and your work is done for you its like its loaded with ratchets that seamlessly click in and out of position

Unbelievably fun board, the reason it makes the list is because its a crowd pleaser, you will not be disappointed. there is just no way!

Best for slangin jibs and butters and learning some seriously cool flatland stuff, if you want to practice your flat spins, this thing is nimble!

Have a great season!

Alec took his slabs of wood worldwide for years. He floated around enjoying basic day to day creature comforts like salt, beers and nasi goreng, amidst chasing snow for as many days of the year as possible. Then he got a day job... But the dream lives on, Today he loves nothing more than snowboarding, writing for Genki and just being the #1 snow hound this world has ever seen.
